Tangy Shrimp and Scallops

I love scallops and am always looking for good seafood recipes.  Enjoy!  This recipe makes me want to sing "Under the Sea," from the little Mermaid so hopefully that will explain the random photo.

Tangy Shrimp and Scallops:

• 28 large shrimp, peeled and deveined
• 28 sea scallops
• 1/2 cup butter or margarine
• 7 tablespoons lemon juice
• 5 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
• 2 teaspoons garlic powder
• 1 teaspoon paprika

1. Place shrimp and scallops in a large resealable plastic bag. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the butter, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder and paprika. Microwave at 50% power for 1-1/2 minutes or until butter is melted. Stir to blend; set aside 1/3 cup for basting. Pour remaining marinade over shrimp and scallops. Seal bag and turn to coat; refrigerate for 1 hour, turning occasionally.
2. Drain and discard marinade. Alternately thread shrimp and scallops on metal or soaked wooden skewers.
3. Grill, uncovered, over medium-hot heat for 6 minutes, turning once. Brush with reserved marinade. Grill 8-10 minutes longer or until shrimp turn pink and scallops are opaque.

RED HORSE

I made this note card to send to hubby in the desert.  All of his co-workers are jealous of his new RH card proudly displayed on his desk.
For those of you that aren't familiar with RED HORSE it means Rapid Engineer Deployable Heavy Operational Repair Squadron Engineers.  That's just a mouthful so we always say RED HORSE.  I like to explain that they are basically the military's version of Extreme Home Make Over on steroids.  Of course they aren't building fancy expensive homes but instead they are building expensive runways and buildings for the military.  You can learn more about the RED HORSE squadron here.

Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum

Mom and I went to see Mystere at Treasure Island Wednesday night.  It's one of the five Cirque shows currently showing here in Las Vegas.  It's a great show for all ages and kept us both entertained with acrobatics, gymnastics, and jokes.  I personally liked the giant crying baby.  It's considered the original Cirque du Soleil show and has earned the Best Production Show in Las Vegas title eight times.  The only downside about any Cirque show is the pricey tickets.  I refuse to pay full price for any Las Vegas show so I will shop around online for deals.  The best deals are usually found on Travel Zoo.

Treasure Island has a great location on the strip if you are looking for a place to stay that is convenient to everything the strip has to offer.  It's rooms are reasonably priced, except during holiday weekends, and is located at the center of all the action on the strip.  It is located with in walking distance of The Mirage, Palazzo, Venetian and the Fashion Show Mall to name a few.

There's a great free attraction at this casino as well, The Sirens of TI.  It shows three times a day starting at 7 pm and is a pirate themed show with singing, dancing, and fireworks.  It takes place outside the front of Treasure Island and can be seen even from across the street from the hotel.  It's worth checking it out and is especially entertaining for children.

This motorcycle titled, "Sirens of TI," was made by Metropolitan Choppers and artist Scott Cawood.  He collects scrap metal and turns them into pieces of art like the motorcycle you see here.  You can check out this motorcycle inside of the Treasure Island Casino and you can find out more details about it on the TI website.

And if you are lucky, you just might find Jack Sparrow outside of Treasure Island posing for pictures.  No, he has no affiliation with the hotel what-so-ever so be sure to give him some cash for posing for you.

The Venetian

The Grand Canal Shops at the Venetian are one of my favorite places to go on the Las Vegas strip.  I enjoy watching tourists take gondola rides and taking pictures of the scenery.  They are located inside The Venetian which was the first casino Nick and I ever went to here in Las Vegas.  The Grand Canal shops are host to upscale dining, entertainment, and shopping.  The majority of their shops are too high-end for myself however, I enjoy checking out the scenery and gawking at the insane prices.  If you go on a gondola ride, expect to be serenaded by your host while floating along the quarter of a mile river inside and out the Venetian.  In case I forgot to mention it, my mom is here visiting.  Here she is enjoying the canal inside the Venetian.  It sure was hard to get her to pose for this picture because what she really wanted to be doing was gambling.  Ok, so not really.
